The Christmas Letter

I've started to panic. Christmas photos have already started arriving in my mailbox! By December 1, I usually have my family photo (that was cropped and displayed in one of those pre-designed photo cards from one of the many online stores) addressed and waiting for me to go and buy stamps at the post office. This year, well this year it's been different. I had my neighbor come over today to snap a few poses of us in front of our decorated by a 5 year old tree. I think we got one where all four of us have our eyes open and looking towards the same direction! ;)
But my question to all of you out there.....do you write a Christmas letter to go with your photos? I started this tradition about 5 years ago after Colton was born. I try to avoid the whole brag letter, but sometimes that's harder than you think.
I love love love when I get letters from others (hint hint). I started the 2007 letter, but am stuck. I can't really even remember what happened this year. I think it's time to bring in my husband's creativity. I'd love to something a little more creative than just a paragraph of what each of us have done over the year, so any of you with fabulous ideas; do share. Please. Seriously, I need some help.

Trips, plans for next year, big events, family things, friends you saw or did fun things with... umm... the kids growing what they are into, milestones. Things you want to do next year? What you and Mike are doing these days and how it is all going...
I don't know what else... I am as boring as they come! Sorry for the lame help.

OK my sister-in-law is super creative with these things...and I have hopes & dreams of someday having the time to get myself together too. However, I can't use any of her ideas, cuz our lists are the same. Last year, she took a photo of a ton of things that were important to her & her kids from the last year. A favorite toy, memento from a trip, etc., and made the photo look like an "I spy" book. Then below it was "I spy a marble...because it's Henry's favorite Toy". It was so cute, and the whole thing was fabulous. She said it didn't take long--mostly gathering things & getting the photo in there. She even had pix of the boys IN the Photo. The letter part was short & sweet, and a game... TOO CUTE. Just an idea. :o)

No letter from the Duke's this year unfortunately. It'd be 24 pages long. Hopefully a photo card will suffice. Someday!

okay - last year i just did a photo christmas card. this year i would love to do some type of letter, but let's face it, it just might not happen. i think i have a picture picked out for my cards, but i can't find a card i like online. i've got issues. i'm going to keep checking your comments to see if anyone gives me a spark of inspiration...otherwise, it's just photocards for me this year. good luck!

Here's an idea: write it in Colton's voice, from his perspective. Might be able to be less "braggy" that way...

In the past we've done both photo cards and a letter but this year we've decided to try something different. We're thinking of doing a mini-collage of pictures from the year that depict the big things that happened or show how much our son has grown. Then on the back write a brief description of the photo with an added note to say how we're doing and then give our holiday wishes. We are making them ourselves and printing them at home this year so it's a little more work than just inserting a picture and ordering them online.

I think having this blog is enough. More people should do this and skip the letter!!
