Advice Needed.....

I have a big birthday approaching quickly. I'll be turning 30! I'm not dreading it. In fact, I'm totally fine with it. When I turn 40, it might be a different story.
Any way...Mike asked me what I'd like to do for this special event. I don't want a big party. That I know for sure. I did decide that I want to travel somewhere for my birthday gift. I'm quite realistic and know that we can't afford to fly to Mexico or California for a quick weekend get-away so I started looking at locations that we could drive to.
I've heard fabulous things about Door County Wisconsin. Here's where I need your help. If you've been there, please let me know where we should stay and what are a few things that we should do while there. We'll be going this fall sometime if that helps with suggestions.
Thanks in advance!

Door County is great. Bill & I went there last year for our Anniversary. It was April and so not many things were open for the season. We did a lot of sight seeing and stuff. We stayed in Sister Bay at the Church Hill Inn. It was very nice and the breakfast was wonderful. We had a GREAT dinner at the Inn at Kristofers. The English Inn is so neat and the food was good. We stopped there because we were a little bit hungry, well don't go there if you are just a little hungry. The food is great and you'll want to eat. Also, we had breakfast The Cookery. WONDERFUL. I guess they had a fire though so I am not sure if they will be open. As you can tell we ate A LOT of good food but the shops are great also. They are all over the place so I am not sure of their names as we went to so many. Anyway, stop by the Church Hill Inn's website. They have a lot of great info. Good Luck and let us know how is goes!

I LOVE Door County and the fall is the best time to go. The leaves are beautiful throughout. I can't remember where we stayed, but I will say you can bike through the national park to the tip of the penninsula between Lakes Michigan and Superior, roughly 10 miles, and I HIGHLY recommend spending an afternoon doing that. It was beautiful and pretty cool to stand between the two lakes. There are also several very good wineries in the area that I encourage you to visit for various tastings. And on the drive there you could side trip to Lambeaux field if you've never been. It is somewhat of a national landmark. I do have a cousin who flies there several times a year (private plane for pleasure) so let me know if you need names of places and I can get that for you. Can't wait to hear about your visit. I hope you go in Oct. It's breathtaking with the changing colors.
